Diamond Rug

I've moved house and the loom now has its own bit of wall in my bedroom where it will not be disturbed.

Just for a rest from pile weave cloaks I'm doing a narrow soumack rug in a diamond pattern to use up a big bag of oddments of various wools and colours so it will be finished when the wool runs out or the warp whichever happens first. Nice to be doing this again. Pile cloaks are good to do but having a butterfly mind I get bored whith everything sooner or later and need a change.

Latest cloak

On this one the pile is laid in on every fourth pick so it hardly shows on the reverse. Norwegian warp, Hebridean weft, Gotland locks for pile.

The finished pile weave cloak

The cloak kindly modelled by Robin. This one went to a reenactor in Germany.

New Pile Rug

The colours have not come out very well on this.
The warp is grey norwegian, weft black hebridean and the pile is a simply gorgeous gotland in shades of silver grey, dark grey and black.

This is a better picture of the viking pile weave rug/cloak.

Dragon shawl

There had been plans to adapt the loom for twill weaves but having worked 4'6" of plain tabby with no variation I got so bored so what was to be the peplos was finished early and decorated with four felt dragon heads and is now a shaw. Think I'll stick to soumak and pile weave from now on!
